"Charles X Cut Crystal Gilded Bronze Inkwell Circa 1815-1820"Exceptional inkwell in cut and engraved crystal in gilded bronze mount. The crystal has a so-called "ribbed" size. Fine engravings of stylized laurel leaves are arranged arround the two ink pots, the pounce pot and the four pen holders. The inkwell is decorated by two gilt bronze handles in shape of snake. The inkwell rests on four feet with a winged putti head.
This inkwell is representative of the production of the manufactory of Bercy founded by Alexandre Paris and active in the years 1820-1830. This inkwell is characteristic of a production of crystals of great finesse in vogue during the first years of the Restoration and especially during the reign of Charles X.
