From 1829, he travels and lives in England, France, Italy, and Germany.

In 1836, he exhibits the result of his work in these various countries in a big exhibition in Brussels.

From 1842, he becomes teaching to the Anvers Royal Arts Academy. In 1852, he replaces Gustaaf Wappers as Director of the Anvers Royal Arts Academy.
