"Lucien Verite: The Old Bearnaise"It is much easier to identify a painter when one has already had! The proof: when I saw this monogram, I thought for a second to Louis Valtat, but the style and the subject did not correspond I instantly oriented towards the regional of the stage: Lucien Vérité. The artist, although born in Neuilly in 1866, lived until his death in 1926 in PAU (the other capital ...). This canvas depicting an old Béarnaise woman with a scarf on her head and a multicolored shawl on her shoulders was well signed in the dark lower right, but the artist changed his mind and decided to crop it with a brush stroke Black by monogramming the new image obtained. "In its juice", canvas 61 X 50 cm relaxed, cracks, dirt, small scales presented in a half-round baguette gilded 65 X 53 cm. I spent a bit of white-spirits on the canvas to take the pictures before it dries. We have many paintings to restore at our shop in Pau for which we prefer to sell on site, preferably in lots!
