"Pair Of Chenets Rocaille, Around 1730"Pair of rock-fired andirons, gilded bronze, beginning of the Louis XV period. Dim. (H x W x D): 33.5 x 21 x 13 cm. Pair of rock-fired andirons of the purest Regency-Louis XV style from the years 1720-1730. They are composed of the classic louis-quatorzian vase completely revised to conform to the new taste. Thus, we can scarcely distinguish the axis of the vase, which seems to be unbalanced by a profusion of vegetable ornaments organized in a spiral from its foot to its collar, the sum of a seed. The vase rests on a large shell treated like a very ribbed cabbage leaf which surmounts other elements of the vocabulary Louis XV such as staples and the shell as well as a console foot in Louis XV acanthus. The andirons are highlighted by an abundant carving contrasting the flattened browns and the natural ornaments chiselled. Very good condition. Beautiful old gilding.
