"Gabriel Largeteau: The Hunter"
How could Gabriel Largeteau (1911-1969) be forgotten dictionaries and other sites? He was a native of the Toulouse region and was a pupil of Devambez at the Beaux-Arts in Paris where he obtained the second second Grand Prix de Rome (bronze medal, what!) For his canvas Subject imposed "Rest" where we see women carrying the midday meal to harvesters in a modern realistic style. His style evolved rapidly towards more "avant-garde" representations like our canvas dating from the 50s. It measures 100 X 65 cm, is presented in an American case surmounted by a frame with black reversed slope And gold 117 X 89 cm. "In its juice", it presents many small gaps that do not really hinder the reading of the painting, but deserve to be restored.
