Beatified on May 12, 1604, at a synod in Mantua by Pope Clement VIII, he was canonized on April 26, 1726 by Benedict XIII. Liturgically Saint Louis de Gonzague is commemorated on June 21st. He is the patron saint of Catholic youth. The holy person is praying before a human skull (allegory of death). An hourglass evokes the passing time and the futility of life. The skull is placed on the bible to express the fact that life after death is more important than the secular life. The work is presented in a wooden frame and gilded stucco Louis XVI style. The frame measures 39cm x 30cm The paint measures 27cm x 22cm. Work dating from the late eighteenth century. In good condition.
