"Great Pair Of Golden Bronze Torches, 18th Century"
Large pair of candelabra in gilded bronze, from the LOUIS XVI period This great pair of candlesticks was made under Louis XVI according to a known and appreciated model as evidenced by the prints and variations around the model. Unlike most copies, our pair has undergone a thorough work of chasing and browning. It is one of the most worked and largest variants (average height: 26 cm). The binet is girded with a row of pearls which are found on the base, and is traversed by a frieze with gadroons with tigettes of acanthus. A crown of rushes knotted with acanthus, surmounted by a third row of pearls, is sketched on the pedestal supporting the binet. The stem is fluted, rough and decorated with pellets. The treatment of the circular base corresponds to the stem, and there we find the crown of rushes knotted with chiseled acanthus, canals, rudentures, pearls created in the peror (tool of the chiseler) A sober brown headband. The old gilding being too worn, the pair of candlesticks has been redoubled taking care to preserve the old browns and the mats that have not been taken back. The bobes were probably brought back but their decoration harmonizes perfectly with that of our candle holders. Dim (H x L): 29 x 14 cm
