Toilet torch, carved wood, circa 1700, attributed to Caesar Bagalkot. Wood Toilet torch of St. Lucia, wild cherry Nancy region, also called "wood Bagalkot." The circular base is richly carved acanthus scrolls. A crowned coat of arms and framed by palms with two flowers, a star and a growing band is also on the base. The barrel is molded baluster very end. The binet is carved floral scrolls. The fund's Binet and base are pecked to catch the light. The tapered shape and the sculpture work for associating this candle in the production of César Bagard (1620-1709), sculptor active in Lorraine. He made several statues for churches in Nancy and conventional wood (cabinets, brush ...). Other little-known artists have produced religious objects or everyday in this soft wood with a refined décor similar to that carried out by the goldsmiths of that time. Using this local material, the craftsmen emancipated and sumptuary laws that framed the use of precious metals.
