"Pair Of Chairs Louis XVI Era Attributed To Georges Jacob"
Pair of chairs wood moldings, arched back and seat horseshoe from rosettes connection and piètelment grooved, gray lacquered wood, Louis XVI, attributed to Georges Jacob. Since the 1760s, Georges Jacob (1739-1814) is still young carpenter. He spends his MA in 1765 and began to stamp since. During this period of creative force, he invented many kinds that will mark his work including, according to one estimate, between 10 and 12,000 seats produced throughout his career, with a workshop composed of hundreds of workers, like his colleague cabinetmaker Jean -Henri Riesener. With these new types belong architected console feet seats whose form is used by the Duke of Choisel in Chanteloup (Carnavalet Museum) and until 1789 the Count of Artois and Madame Elisabeth (Fig. Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris ). These new legs are associated with a new foundation, called "horseshoe", as our pair of chairs, whose model is the property of Georges Jacob.D'autres chairs of the same model are known, including a chair conserved Museum of the Ile-de-Francea Seals, from a castle in the Paris (ill.). A suite of chairs, certainly richer, which belonged to the Duke of Penthièvre have the same shape and the same proportion (Fig., Coll. Wildenstein, Christie's New York, 2005) Finally, the wood of the seat of our pair are treated in elegy, typical of Jacob. It should be noted that this type of seat "Horseshoe" was highly appreciated and that other carpenters therefore made use, including Jean-Baptiste Boulard. With its fluted base, our seats when the middle of the career of one of the most famous eighteenth century carpenter, joiner appointed Marie Antoinette until the Revolution active even under the Empire.
