He exhibited at the Salon in 1841, 1843 and 1849. He painted portraits, genre scenes and landscapes. He was often called upon as a "negro" by Horace Vernet and Jean-Charles Langlois who asked him to paint horses or certain elements of their paintings. He died in Paris at the age of 36 years.
