Object description :

"Candy Box In "vernis Martin", France, Early XIXth Century"
  • Paper maché, painting in oil varnished-polished, clear lacquer covered, silver spangles
  • Good condition
  • France, early nineteenth century
  • Candybox papier maché covered with a wood "trompe l'oeil" . The interior is in tortoiseshell, always in "trompe l'oeil". The technique used is that of painting oil varnished and polished. This candy is an example of luxury items developed during the eighteenth century that is perpetuated by the end of their production from a less wealthy clientele. The decor is an illustration: simple decor in "trompe l'oeil" without special refinement except some straw reviving the brilliance of the box, also peeling trompe l'oeil ... This is the few cases that could in be buyers for such low prices but fragile objects that make the rarity today.
