Large oil on panel from the end of the XVII th century representing the baptism of Christ.
a superb and very accomplished Italian composition: Christ and his cousin Saint John the Baptist are at the center of the composition, the holy spirit comes to fly over and illuminate the scene while Jesus receives the baptism.
On the left many characters attend the baptism and two angels are present on the right.
a cloud above the holy spirit and a Roman soldier in the architecture at the top right suggest the torments to come.
very beautiful colors, despite the slightly yellowed varnish, some small lack of paint visible in the photos. beautiful ribbon frame in sober gilded wood from the 19th century, highlighting this beautiful panel.
A very beautiful representation of the baptism of Christ by a follower of Francesco Solimena (1657-1747).

dimensions:
58 cm long by 40 cm high for the panel and 71 cm by 52 cm with the frame.
