Blanche Odin was born in 1865, on the 25th of February, in Troyes. As a child, she was a boarder at the Ursuline convent. She decided around the age of twenty to devote herself to painting and around 1890 became a pupil of the watercolourist Madeleine Lemaire in Paris, at a time when the school of fine arts was closed to women. In 1895 she took Ulpiano Checa lessons. From 1902, she opened a workshop in Paris, at 21, rue du Vieux-Colombier, which was a great success. She exhibits her works at the Petit gallery in Paris and produces many commissioned works, in particular bouquets of flowers. In 1934, she moved to Bagnères-de-Bigorre. Her workshop is located at 6, rue Gambetta. In 1938, she donated forty-eight watercolors to the Salies Museum. She died in Bagnères-de-Bigorre on August 3, 1957. A critic of the time wrote: "Under her brush, which has both grace and virility, the flowers in their infinite variety bloom with so many generous bursts of flavor. They are as they are presented, a delight for the gaze, which goes from one to the other, without being able to settle here or there. After her death, she retained the favor of many admirers of her art. Gradually, the regular appearance of many of her works on the market contributes to a new notoriety. She is now recognized as one of the greatest watercolor artists of her generation.
