Bright and delicate icon representing the Mother of God in four registers:1/ Virgin of the Passion (top left).
2/ Virgin called "relieves my pain" (top right).
3/ Virgin called "don't cry my mother" (bottom left).
4/ Virgin called "softens the bad heart" (bottom right).
This splendid icon dates from the first half of the 19th century -- around 1830/1850.
Its style, its palette and its great finesse allow it to be attributed to one of the best workshops in the Volga region in Russia.
It is painted with tempera on a wooden panel in light and warm tones.
The borders and halos are gilded and the clothes are also richly embellished with gold.
Very good original state of conservation. Small wear of time and cracks.
It is sold with its certificate of authenticity and a complete description of the work.
