Gaston d'Illiers' passion for horses holds an essential place in his work. Coco Bucking, also known as Bucking Pony, was made in 1924 and was intended to be presented to the manufacturer of hood ornaments Léon Richard. The fashion for mascots had begun a few years earlier with the sculptor Rembrandt Bugatti and his Dancing Elephant and with his brother Ettore, car manufacturer, who made it the emblem of the Bugatti Royale.
Coco Bucking was cast as a mascot with silver patina and in more classic patinas, just as this bronze.
