Rare and very important chest of drawers in the shape of a tomb with a curved front and sides. Inlaid in kingwood with curling and chevron patterns. It presents an important ornamentation of chiseled and gilded bronzes. Pulling hands on women's busts, keyholes lined with acanthus leaves, large rock drops and acanthus slippers on the uprights. The crosspieces underlined with brass nets. The sides adorned with staples in pink with swirling foliage. Drop of the shell apron. Sarrancolin fantastico or Ilhet marble top. Stamped three times HEDOUIN for Jean Baptiste HEDOUIN, received master in 1738. Regency period haut:86. Width: 145. Prof: 65 sarrancolin iIlhet or fantastico the ILHET variety is extracted from the village of sarrancolin in the Hautes Pyrénées. the quarries enjoyed their greatest glory under the reign of Louis XIV and were considered royal quarries from 1692. This exceptional marble was used for the manufacture of the base of Louis XIV made by Le Berrin kept at the Palace of Versailles. Between 1686 and 1689 forty blocks of Sarrancolin were transported to the royal yards of Louis XIV. In 1692 they were decreed "royal careers" on behalf of the latter. In the 19th century, this marble was used to make 30 monolithic columns of the Opéra Garnier.
