Portrait of Marie-Adelaïde de Savoie (1685 - 1712), oil on oval canvas, dimensions 69 cm x 59 cm, with its 17th century carved wooden frame, 82 cm x 72 cm, End of the 17th century. Former Stéphane Bern collection Probably painted at the time of the marriage with Louis of France (1682 - 1712), Duke of Burgundy then Dauphin of France. Marie-Adelaïde de Savoie is the eldest of the children of Victor-Amédée II, Duke of Savoie and Anne Marie d'Orléans, daughter of Monsieur, brother of Louis XIV and Henrietta of England, first wife of Monsieur. On December 7, 1697, Marie-Adelaïde de Savoie married the future Dauphin at the age of 12. Carried away by an epidemic of measles which ravaged Versailles, she succumbed on February 12, 1712 at the age of 26, the dolphin died 6 days later and then the eldest of their sons died after a month, only resisting the youngest of their children, who would become Louis XV.
