"17th Century French School, The Rest During The Flight Into Egypt - Holy Family 94.5x106cm"
Large painting representing the Holy Family: on the right the Blessed Virgin, the gilded face, holds the Child Jesus showing a rose without thorns, with translucent stem and leaves which symbolizes purity and "universal" love. On the left, Saint Joseph points to a spring of living water to quench the child's thirst. The scene takes place in a cave and at the bottom of the landscape, we can see a winged angel in charge of guarding the donkey. Our large oil on canvas, which dates from the second half of the 17th century, takes up the composition of the painting by Nicolas Chaperon executed in 1639, but reversed from left to right. The work from the Louis XIV period has a very classic, antique feel. It is presented in a beautiful gilded frame with gold leaf in the neoclassical Louis XVI style dating from the mid-19th century. Beautiful large format castle painting, furnishing piece suitable for use as an altar painting or living room.
