"Chest Of Drawers Attributed To Jj Werner"
Attributed to Jean Jacques WERNER Chest of drawers in ash burl, Charles X period. It opens with a drawer in the upper part which forms a writing desk concealing four drawers with ivory button. The wood used is holm oak, typical of Werner for the writing desk. Two leaves in the central part concealing three English mahogany drawers. A drawer is hidden in the plinth. Ornamentation of palmettes on the front. Original locks. Gray veined marble top. Charles X period Jean-Jacques Werner, born in Switzerland, moved to Paris around 1820. Upholsterer, decorator and manufacturer of furniture, undoubtedly the most important of the Restoration, he produced very high quality furniture and became a supplier to the Garde- royal furniture. He took part in the major exhibitions of industrial products in 1819, 1823 and 1827. Werner's furniture, which was very successful during his lifetime, was always extremely well finished and of very high quality. He exploited his woods himself.
