Alexis Douillard born in Nantes was a pupil of Hippolyte Flandrin and Charles Gleyre, he exhibited at the Salon from 1861 to 1881. He produced many painted decorations for religious and civil buildings, in Saint Julien de Tours, at the Palais de Justice, at the Belfort church, Barnabites chapel in Paris, Saint-Louis church in Paimboeuf ... Works at the Baron Martin Museum in Gray, at the Morlaix museum, at the Nantes museum ..
