Glass Pharmacy Card Late Nineteenth / Early Twentieth Century

Pharmacy jar labeled "Cinchona Zeylanicum:" (Ceylon red cinchona) Its bark is reputed to stimulate digestive secretions and appetite. It also has an anti-infective effect, hence its prescription in case of influenza, and astringent. This property makes it a valuable treatment for pressure ulcers and sluggish (stabilized) wounds. Finally, the plant contains quinine and quinidine known to treat fever (especially in case of malaria) and heart rhythm disorders such as arrhythmia.
