VIDAL Gustave (1895 - 1966)

"Alley going down to the port of Bonifacio, Corsica"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower right,
Titled on the back by the artist: "6: Village du littoral Corse"

Beautiful bright work with strong contrast by the painter Gustave Vidal which represents an animated view of the port of Bonifacio in Corsica.
The artist was able to perfectly transcribe the blazing light of a summer day and the calm of the Mediterranean Sea.

We can compare our work to another painting by the artist sold by the gallery in 2021 representing this same view from another angle and located by the artist in Bonifacio.

Student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Avignon under the direction of the painter Pierre Grivolas who will encourage his students, including Gustave Vidal, to paint outdoors. He will be under the influence of the new school of Avignon and the abstract painters. His own style combines knife technique and pictorial stylization.
He won many awards from his beginnings, and exhibited around the world.

Dimensions: 60 x 105 cm without frame and 72 x 118 cm with its white lacquered wooden frame.
