Beautiful and great work by the painter born in Salon de Provence Théodore Jourdan which represents a shepherd and his flock of sheep on the banks of the pond of Berre, certainly in the vicinity of Rognac where the artist liked to put his easel.
The artist has perfectly represented the play of light in Provence and finely realized the details of the shepherd, the flock of sheep and the surrounding vegetation.
Our work has certainly been presented by the artist during a Salon in Paris or Marseille.

A pupil of Emile Loubon, he made his debut at the Marseilles exhibition of 1859. He exhibited at the Salon of French artists from 1865 and won several awards. In particular, he received more than fifteen awards during his participation in salons in the provinces and even won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Sydney in 1879.
From 1874 to 1903, he taught drawing at the school of Fine Arts in Marseilles.
Théodore Jourdan is best known for his pastoral scenes.

During his lifetime, the artist will bequeath to his hometown 19 large canvases and drawings in return for a lifelong annuity for his wife. His works are currently visible in the museum of Salon de Provence.

His works are kept in various museums: Granet Museum in Aix en Provence, Draguignan Museum, Digne Museum, Salon and La Crau Museum, Tourcoing Museum, ...

Dimensions: 67 x 92 cm without frame and 98 x 123 cm with its imposing original frame in carved and gilded wood.
