Bright work of the Marseille painter Adolphe Gaussen who represents a seaside in the vicinity of Marseille. Through his color palette, the painter succeeded in transcribing the atmosphere of a summer day and the movement of the sea.

A pupil of Guindon and Magaud at the Ecole des Beaux-arts in Marseille, he left for Paris and meets the painter Jean-Baptiste Olive. This denier will advise him and become his faithful friend. He then entered the studio of the painter Jen-Paul Laurens and became the studio's best student. His success is affirmed during his participation in the Salon of French artists from 1893 to 1936 where he obtains several medals.
In 1907, he became a professor at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille.
He was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1913 then raised to the rank of officer in 1928 and appointed Official Painter of the Navy.
It was in 1935 that the painter Adolphe Gaussen settled permanently in Marseille, where the light and the sea have always inspired his works. He then became the first curator of the Cantini Museum.
In 1939, he was honorary president of the office of the Union des Artistes and in 1947, he became a member of the Academy of Sciences, Letters and Arts of Marseille.

His works are kept in various museums: Arles, Beaune, Marseille, Toulon, ...

Nb: Three old small restorations, without impact, are visible on the back. Presence of fine original cracks on the canvas due to too rapid drying of the paint.

Dimensions: 32.5 x 41.5 cm without frame and 45.5 x 53.5 cm with its original gilded wooden frame.
