Drawing By Théodore Ravanat (1812-1883)

Dauphinois landscape school of which Théodore Ravanat is one of the major representatives. He is the initiator of the meetings of Proveyzieux where he settles at the beginning of the years 1863. Artistic and cultural center, Proveyzieux appears as a school of landscape painting like Barbizon. Self-taught, Théodore Ravanat digests the successive revolutions which marked the evolution of the genre in the second half of the 19th century. Following in the footsteps of Corot and the Barbizon School, his landscape drawings form a singular corpus. Alternately classical in the manner of Henri de Valenciennnes, romantic in that of Isabey, naturalist in that of Corot, realist in that of Courbet and finally synthetic undergoing the influence of Cézanne. The one who was Curator of the Museum and Director of the Grenoble School of Drawing is regularly the subject of exhibitions.
