Raymond Guerrier (1920-2002) Landscape Of The Surroundings Of Baux De Provence flag

Object description :

"Raymond Guerrier (1920-2002) Landscape Of The Surroundings Of Baux De Provence"
The rough and emaciated Provence by the artist Raymond Guerrier.
As Auguste Chabaud said, "bones and muscle"; no artifice or frivolous or commercial embellishment, but only the essentials.
The sobriety of this work makes it effective and modern, it is produced in oil on canvas in a generous material, and proposed in a black frame of the American box type which measures 38.5 cm by 79 cm and 30 cm by 73 for the canvas alone.
In good condition, the work is signed lower left.

Self-taught, he worked in photoengraving before starting to paint in 1947. Recognition came quickly: he had his first personal exhibition in 1952, Galerie Stiebel in Paris. The following year, he won the prize for Young Painting and exhibited in London at the Redfern Gallery. In 1954, he moved to the Alpilles in Eygalières, looking for a bitter tranquility that shines through in his landscapes and still lifes.
