Beautiful work of the painter Louis Le Poittevin which represents a field of wheat on the cliffs in Normandy, most certainly in Etretat (cliff of Aval) where the artist produced many views.
The artist depicts lush, finely detailed vegetation in the foreground. The second plan depicts a calm sea and sky.
Cousin of the writer Guy de Maupassant, the latter dedicating a short story entitled "l'Ane" to him in 1883, Louis Le Poittevin is a painter fascinated by photography.
A pupil of the painters Gustave Maurin, Philippe Zacharie, William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury, he produced Norman and Orientalist landscapes. His works meet with great success during his participation in Salons and exhibitions.
He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists from 1877 to 1907.
His art is described as "going beyond the impression (..) by the search for the true and beautiful".
His paintings are now kept in various museums: Musée d'Orsay in Paris, Musée Paul Valéry in Sète, Musée des Ursulines in Mâcon, Musée de la Pêcheries in Fécamp ....
Nb: Old small restorations, without incidence, are visible on the back of the canvas.
