"Carriage Clock Travel Clock Hour Repeater Central Second Hand L. Vrard"
Carriage Clock L. VRARD & Co, SHANGHAI in engraved and gilded bronze, with central second hand
This clock bears the number 106 engraved on all the important parts.
The escapement is with English lever, the fixed parts are covered with silver.
The gilded bronzes are finely chiselled with floral decorations.
Beveled lenses are chip and scratch free. the white enamel dial in good condition without gaps has a slight crack that starts from above the number V to reach the edge.
H. 15 cm with the raised handle, L. 9.5 cm, D. 8.5 cm
This clock was intended for the Chinese market for which the central second was very important because the Chinese stamp gave animation to the clock's movement on the back is the mark of the dealer selling in China certainly in SHANGAI according to the Allix and Bonnert carriage clocks
A very interessant detail : the presence of 2 stamps in brass (bronze) one on the back for the ringtones of the hour and the other under the clock for the Réveil-Alarm.
The 4 Breguet-shaped hands are well paired and original.
The supplied double spanner is perfectly suited for winding up the springs and making adjustments.
The movement (striking and hourly rate) works over 8 days, so you have to wind up the time and the striking every week.
The photos are not retouched: the object is prettier in real life than in the photos, no bad surprises, it is a choice on the part of our workshop.
All the work carried out on this clock is carried out in compliance with the ethical rules for the restoration of watchmaking objects. i.e. without modification or embellishment of the timepiece and using mineral or high-end synthetic oils and greases (Moebius, etc.) for lubrication Restoration of this clock (complete disassembly piece by piece of the movement and of the cage) has just been carried out in an Art Watchmaking workshop (www.horloger-chastant.fr) Its operation is guaranteed (time, chime).
PRECAUTIONS AND ADVICE: it is advisable to handle the clock with cotton gloves to avoid the oxidation of the golden brass by the sweat of the fingers (if fingerprints must be applied immediately without delay, pass a soft cloth without product), respect the direction of the arrows for setting the time and for setting the alarm clock). It should not be exposed near a heat source (fireplace in operation, radiators, halogen spotlights, sunlight) There is no work to be done on this beautiful clock. The next revision should be done in 5 to 10 years maximum (aging of the oils, which oxidize, causing wear on the pivot points) all reasonable purchase proposals will be examined and will receive a response. Keep in mind the work done and the rarity of this clock
