"Concarneau, the closed city"

Oil on canvas,
Signed lower left,

Beautiful work by the painter Henri Barnoin which represents fishermen at the port of Concarneau, facing the closed city.
The foreground is animated by Breton women and fishermen preparing the cotriade. The cotriade is a fish soup prepared at the end of a fishing campaign by fishermen. The second plan gives us a view of part of the fortified city of Concarneau called the walled city of Concarneau.

Coming from a family of artists, Henri Barnoin was a pupil of Luc-Olivier and Emile Charles Dameron at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1909, he exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon and obtained an honorable mention there. From then on, he exhibited regularly at the Salons in Paris and in the Provinces, his participations were hailed by the critics and were rewarded.
In 1912 to 1919, the artist moved to Concarneau and was part of the Concarneau group. He produced views showing the bustling port. He represents in his works groups of Breton women in traditional dress, fishermen, market scenes, processions.
With other painters, he visits the other Breton ports on the Atlantic coast: Quimperlé, Quimper, Locronan, Douarnenez...

Painter and pastellist, he likes to play on the light effects of sunrise and sunset.

His works are kept in various museums in France: in Concarneau, Faouët, Lorient, Quimper, Vannes, ... as well as in many private collections.

Nb: An old repaint, without impact, is to be reported at the level of a sail of a boat

Dimensions: 33 x 41.5 cm without frame and 50.5 x 42.5 cm with its original wooden frame.
