"Pierre Noyelle - Still Life With Fish"
Pierre NOYELLE Paris, 1901 – after 1944Oil on canvas 61 x 50 cm (76.5 x 66.5 cm with the frame) Signed and dated at the top right “Pierre Noyelle / 1938”
Pierre Noyelle was an actor in the cinema and a painter. After having acted in several films (1927: Fleurette (Marcel Vandal), 1931: My cousin from Warsaw (Carmine Gallone)), he settled in the lower Montmartre in the ninth arrondissement in Paris. Pupil of Suzanne Valadon Pierre Noyelle exhibited from 1937 at the Salon d'Automne and in Parisian galleries. He was one of the painters of Montmartre in the 1930s. Pierre Noyelle liked to paint the banks of the Marne ("La Marne à Nogent" presented at the Salon d'Automne de Paris in 1944) as well as still lifes ("Flowers and fruits" , “Roses in a glass”…). The State has also acquired “Peonies and pineapples” for the Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Our painting is a fine example of his still lifes painted in paste with a remarkable rendering of the material and very beautiful colors. The fish in particular are beautifully painted!
