"Horizontal Sundial"
PARIS Horizontal sundial with numerous indications, and the inscriptions: "Nec pluribus Impar" (motto of the kings of France since Louis XIV, most commonly accepted meaning: "like no other"), and "Fabrique de Paris"; wind rose on the reverse. The whole of a very great smoothness of cast iron which can only be obtained by the lost wax technique. Four fleur-de-lis (one reconstituted) allow fixation. Some examples also bear the words "Pellier à Paris" on the reverse. Second half of the 18th century. Diam. : 20.8 cm with the lilies. Very good state of conservation. Gnomon in brass, is an old restoration. Pellier was a watchmaker in Paris "rue des Canettes St Sulpice, above the Charcutier, the first floor".
