"The Little Girl With A Lace Collar: Belle Epoque Painting Portrait By Fernand De Launay"
Charming and sensitive portrait of a renoiresque little girl with pink cheeks by the renowned French portraitist Fernand Raoul Gaston Henryet de Launay (1855-1904).
Son of the writer Alphonse de Launay, Fernand de Launay exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, then at the Salon des artistes francais, where he received an honorable mention in 1896. His portrait of the actress Amélie Villetard can be found at the Musée des Beaux Arts of Rouen. De Launay also painted fin de siècle genre scenes similar to -and as sought after as - those of his contemporaries Victor Gilbert and Norbert Goeneutte.
The portrait of our pretty little girl is signed and dated 1894 upper right. Painted on mahogany panel measuring 35 x 27 cm, the framed dimensions in a more recent frame are 46 x 36.5 cm. In excellent condition, perfect but for with one hairline scratch in the background area
