"Gaston Pottier - Return From Fishing In Douarnenez"
Very early attracted by drawing and painting, Gaston Pottier was enrolled by his father at the Julian Academy where he devoted himself to his passion. In 1905, Gaston Pottier arrived in Douarnenez, where he met Marie Le Gall, whom he married in 1908. Falling under the spell of the city, the ports and particularly the Plomarc'h, he very rarely left his town of adoption. In Douarnenez he befriended artists like Louis-Marie Désiré-Lucas and Pierre Abadie Landel, a former member of the Seiz Breur movement, who frequented Douarnenez every summer. He works mainly from sketches and finishes his work in the calm of his studio. In 1937 he produced a series of large paintings, representing the port of Douarnenez, from Cale Noire to Plomarc'h, for the owners of the Hôtel de France. He died in August 1980 at the age of 95 and is buried in the Ploaré cemetery.
