"Young Woman With Birds, Workshop Of Antoine Pesne, Mid-18th Century"
Portrait of a young woman with birds, oil on canvas, dimensions 78 cm x 57 cm, with the frame, 98 cm x 77 cm, workshop of Antoine Pesne, mid-18th century. Our model is not a country woman, the fashion at that time is to have her portrait portrayed as a peasant woman, to see in the same spirit the portrait of Madame de Pompadour as a peasant woman. This fashion continued until the Revolution, Madame Elisabeth, The Princess of Polignac and Marie-Antoinette strongly contributing to this spirit. Antoine Pesne is a French painter born May 23, 1689 in Paris and died August 5, 1757 in Berlin. He had a successful career in several European cities, including Venice and Berlin, and it was in the capital of Prussia that he ended his life. After being the official court painter to Frederick William I, he was confirmed in his post by Frederick II, who honored him with his blessings.
