"Leon Alexandre Blanchot : "la Mauresque A La Rose""
Léon Alexandre Blanchot (1868-1947) "Young Moorish man sniffing a rose".Watercolor 321 X 22 cm, mounted by a Marie-Louise in a pretty old rosewood frame with clear threads 51 X 44 cm.
If he is better known as a sculptor, the Bordeaux artist Blanchot under the pseudonym of Ivan Loewitz or, as here, with the two initials of the pseudo and his surname, produced many illustrations.
Although dressed in the Moorish style with harem pants, blouse and mules, for watercolor purposes, the model with her red hair and blue eyes is of course Western! Casually leaning against a wall, she inhales with delight the scent of a rose dreamily. The brilliance of the touch of watercolor on a light preparatory pencil line is dazzling.
