"Victor René Livache - The Holy Family"
Victor René LIVACHE 1872 - 1944 Gouache and pencil on paper 43 x 33 cm Signed lower right "VR LIVACHE / Rome 1910" Painter and draftsman born in Angers, Victor René Livache worked for many churches. He has created frescoes, decorative paintings and stained glass windows, notably for Saint Maurice Cathedral in Angers. He was also director of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Angers between 1921 and 1944. Our painting is located in Rome. This is a pretty well done study, a copy probably made in Rome, and which will serve as a cardboard for the work of a master glassmaker. We recognize the drawing qualities of this son of painter (Victor Livache, himself a pupil of Leon Cogniet) who was influenced in his colors and his light by the great post-impressionist masters of religious painting of his time such as Maurice Denis. Our painting is dated 1910. He exhibited that year at the Salon Artists the Game of the Rose, a large composition of 2 meters by 2 meters 50. Price: 500 euros
