"Bacchante Ivre Taquinee By Putti"
An annotation on the back of the chassis indicates 1815, a date which seems to me quite plausible given the texture of the canvas and the way of painting close to an artist like Füssli or those of this early century who hesitated between romanticism and neo-classical ... There was also a name inscription, but we can only distinguish the first name Pierre. Pity. The scene shows us a drunken young woman whose attributes on the ground, ewer, bunches of grapes and tambourine, tells us a bacchante, teased by loves that undress her, as if to prepare her for the coming of the divine lover Bacchus. The canvas, about 33 X 40 cm, is relaxed, holding the top of the chassis only by bugs, presents some scales and shortages, especially at the top (see photo against the light), little primed, it leaves to see its grain through painting. We have many paintings to restore at our shop in Pau for which we prefer to sell on site, preferably in lots!
