French Art Deco Mirror With Ebonized Frame
A striking French Art Deco cheval mirror, freestanding and beautifully proportioned, featuring an elegant oval mirror plate held within a bold ebonised wooden frame. The silhouette is classic to the period, combining strong architectural lines with refined curvature, all anchored by a substantial stepped base that gives the piece real presence and stability.
The mirror plate is original, bevelled, and displays visible foxing and age-related markings throughout. These signs of age lend the mirror a wonderful sense of authenticity and depth, giving it far more character than a replacement glass. That said, the mirror could be replaced if preferred, though in our view the original plate enhances the overall aesthetic and historical integrity of the piece.
The mirror is adjustable, secured by a pair of attractive brass acorn finials, which allow the angle to be set easily while introducing a subtle decorative note. The contrast between the warm brass fittings and the deep black ebonised finish is particularly effective, reinforcing the confident, sculptural quality of the design.
The frame has been professionally restored and ebonised, presenting beautifully with a rich, even finish that highlights the clean lines and proportions. This is a superb example of Art Deco design, equally suited to a bedroom, dressing area, or statement interior where form and function are equally valued.
