Carved Oak Chest Or Bread Bin – Hunting & Nature Decor
Elegant and rare coffer (bread bin or storage pedestal/stand) in solid oak wood, likely dating from the late 19th or early 20th century.
This piece of furniture stands out due to its high-quality relief carving on all four sides. The decorative repertoire is entirely dedicated to the theme of hunting and nature, typical of folk or regionalist art.
DecorationMain Façade: Features a remarkable composition including a bird (pheasant or partridge) with spread wings at the center, surrounded by branches, flowers, and clusters. The top is adorned with a carved cartouche featuring two intertwined ram's horns (or ribboned hunting horns).
Sides: The uprights are magnificently carved with vine tendrils or intertwined foliage. A relief handle on each side facilitates handling the piece.
The form is octagonal at the top and bottom, providing a stable base and an elegant profile. The top lid is flat and articulated by robust hinges, revealing a deep interior compartment ideal for storage.
Wood: Oak with a deep, warm patina.
