Lancer's kurka of the Grand Duchy of Cleveberg, First Empire (1807-1813). 32588-2. In green cloth, fastening straight down the front with thirteen metal clasps and hooks, with a row of nine silvered brass half-bell buttons on each side of the breastplate. Breastplate of pink cloth lined with green, with nine buttonholes on either side. Collar of green cloth, 8 cm high. Sleeve cuffs of pink cloth forming a point in the center, adorned with two uniform buttons. Turnbacks of pink cloth sewn to the coat. On the back of each side, a tab of green cloth piped in pink for the belt. Seams at the back of the back and sleeves are piped in pink. Scarlet cloth shoulder straps covered with silver braid. Interior lining in green cloth and ecru canvas marked in ink "1 C 7". Pair of second lieutenant's epaulettes in silver braid, consisting of one epaulette and one counter-epaulette in dark blue cloth. Poor condition with damage and repairs to the cloth, two missing buttons, period shoulder straps but not of the original pattern, period epaulettes but not of the original pattern, colors faded. Breastplate, facings, and turnbacks restored. HISTORY: The Berg Light Horse constituted a light cavalry corps raised by the Grand Duchy of Berg on May 21, 1807, on the orders of Joachim Murat, Grand Duke of Berg, for his personal guard. The corps' strength increased from one to two regiments and its status changed from light cavalry to mounted chasseurs, and finally, after regimental doubling, to light cavalry lancers who served alongside Napoleon's Imperial Guard in Spain and Russia.
