Storz watches are better known under the Stowa brand, which Walter Storz created in 1927; dials bearing his usual name are rare.
This one is serial number 600156, dating it to late December 1942 or January 1943.
There is another one online, serial number 600021, dated 18/12/1942, visible at: https://www.waecce.com/products/super-rare-ww2-german-kriegsmarine-issued-storz-wristwatch-c-18-12-1942-puw-500?variant=39329728528589
It features a good quality, German-made PUW 500 hand-wound mechanical movement with a small 60-second subdial.
It has its original movement cover, which I haven't opened because the two original gaskets around the edge of the cover still hold it in place within the case, and opening it would require damaging them—I'm not a watchmaker. In short, if you don't know, don't do it!
I think this watch has never been opened!
The movement runs perfectly and keeps good time. Original crown.
Superb original radium dial, untouched, with black Arabic numerals and a painted black Storz inscription.
The dial is in excellent original condition and has never been touched up.
The original radium dots have aged beautifully. Slight loss of radium on the minute hand (see photo).
They still react to UV light (see photo) but the effect fades immediately.
The plexiglass crystal is original, still in very good condition, and has a scratch at 3 o'clock.
The case was originally chrome-plated brass with a snap-on stainless steel case back.
The case is in fair condition considering its age; the chrome plating is missing, which is very common and normal on these soldiers' watches, which were not designed to last.
It is in good condition and has a beautiful coppery patina.
Diameter: 35.5 mm.
Diameter with crown: 38 mm.
Lug width: 41.2 mm.
Lug width: 18 mm (fixed lugs).
It should be noted that this military model was manufactured under different brands, and that there are quite a few watches on the market with "KM" (Kriegsmarine) markings on the dial that were clearly added later! Only the Navy had its accessories marked, not the other two branches (Army and Air Force).
This one has the merit of being 100% original and not modified.
Sold with a copy of the original black leather strap, removable (it clips onto the fixed lugs), and a khaki fabric NATO strap (see photos).
