"Friedrich Bischoff 1819-1873? - Large Painting Of The German School - Charming Snow Scene"
A large and beautiful 19th-century painting depicting a charming winter scene with two children and a grandfather watching the snow fall. The painting is unsigned, but a quick web search reveals three works on this theme, all attributed to the German painter Friedrich Bischoff (1819-1873). He was an artist who made replicas of his own paintings, and variations in compositional details, such as the characters' clothing and the surrounding decor, can be seen (see last image). Note: this painting has not been examined by an expert, but an attribution to this artist seems plausible: the back of the canvas bears the stamp of a paint merchant in Munich, the city where Friedrich Bischoff studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and later worked as an independent artist. A tip for art enthusiasts! - Some wear and tear and small patches of fabric visible on the reverse (old restorations): perhaps the old varnish, which has yellowed in places, could be thinned...this would certainly improve the brightness - Canvas size: 56.5 cm x 45.5 cm - ask me for more photos if needed
