"Matei Rosianu (1898-1969), The Woman With The Fruits"
Watercolor on paper dated 1927, depicting a seated woman with a bunch of raisins in her hand. A work in the style of Cubist painters, signed "Rosianu." Matei Rosianu (1898-1969) was active/lived in Romania. Matei Rosianu is known for his modernist painting, Cubist figures, and some cartoons. A painter of Romanian origin, Rosianu settled in Paris in 1919 and pursued artistic studies. Influenced by Cézanne and Bissière, the artist was simultaneously engaged in Cubist exploration (our earliest work dates from 1937) and an Expressionist approach that lends his works a particular density. At the beginning of his career, he primarily created intimate figurative paintings. In 1929, he joined the Communist Party and added a social dimension to his art. This was followed by a period of activism and artistic activity, culminating in the "Exhibition of Revolutionary Artists." The painting requires cleaning and minor restoration. Dimensions excluding frame: 35 x 25 cm
