A highly decorative and beautifully matched pair of Japanese Meiji Satsuma dishes created in the studio of Miyagawa (Makuzu) Kozan. The slight difference in diameter reflects hand-potted production, while the compositions are intentionally identical, allowing the pair to function as a cohesive decorative ensemble.
The centres depict an elegant family procession beneath blossoming cherry trees, painted in soft enamels and raised gold with exceptional precision. Below, an interior vignette with lacquer stands and draped textiles adds still-life richness.
The border presents a sophisticated patchwork of folding fans and kimono fragments interspersed with peony and chrysanthemum cartouches, all set within a dense gilt-foliate ground that shimmers in display. The reverses carry the small rectangular gold seal 香山 of Makuzu Kozan.
