"Shoe-shaped Sign "
A charming shop sign in the shape of a shoe, made of fabric and adorned with red cut velvet, mounted on a wooden frame. The exquisitely refined design depicts a date palm tree beneath which a man is harvesting fruit with a rope. This Orientalist scene evokes the exotic origins of the raw materials used in shoemaking during the 19th century. An iron hook once allowed it to be hung on a shopfront, serving as a sign for a shoemaker or bootmaker.
