"A Slipware Planter Depicting Rural Architecture, Signed By Edouard Gilles, 19th Century "
An interesting late 19th-century slipware jardinière depicting rural architecture: one side shows a large thatched cottage next to a church, and the other a château. This original slipware piece is the work of Édouard Gilles (1868-1930), a French earthenware artist and ceramist who worked in Montigny-sur-Loing and Boulogne-Billancourt, and was particularly active until the end of the 19th century. He is well-known for his Impressionist and pastoral slipware. This piece is signed in relief with his monogram "EG" and is in perfect condition.
