Magnificent salon painting by Émile Bouisson, born in Toulon in 1830 and a student of Émile Loubon, the celebrated 19th-century Provençal painter. On its original canvas and with its period giltwood and stucco frame, this painting is signed lower left and dated 1870. He exhibited at the Salon des Beaux-Arts from 1868 onwards; this painting was certainly his reception piece for the 1870 Salon. It is of exceptional quality.
