Signed on the lock: P. sormani, Paris, 10 rue Charlot
Paul Sormani (1817–1877) Cabinetmaker and bronze worker of Italian origin established in Paris, Paul Sormani distinguished himself from the middle of the 19th century by the remarkable quality of his Louis XV and Louis XVI inspired furniture. Based on Boulevard Haussmann and Rue Charlot, he participated in the Universal Exhibitions of 1855, 1867 and 1878 where he received several awards. His works, signed “P. Sormani, Paris”, are characterized by refined marquetry, finely chiseled bronzes and a very elegant execution, emblematic of the taste of the Second Empire.
