Jack Godderis, 1916-1971, Belgian landscape painter. He was a student of Thys at the Antwerp Academy, then of Saverys at the NHISKA. After a world tour from 1934 to 1937 he began to exhibit in Antwerp in 1942. Young Art Prize 1942-43. Founding member of La Jeune Peinture Belge in 1945, which he left due to excessive abstract tendencies. He was influenced by Permeke and belonged to Flemish Expressionism. He systematically uses pure color, initially dark tones that eventually become more vivid. He is part of the second generation of painters from the Sint-Martens-Latem School. He won numerous awards: Prix Artes 1947, Prix Huysmans 1951, Prix René Janssens, Prix de l'Académie Royale de Belgique 1957, etc. He decorated the ships Princesse Paola, Freubelafrica, Asia, Oceania and Europa. Retrospective at the Antwerp Museum in 1986. Works at the Museums of Antwerp, Ixelles and Liège. Artist listed at Bénézit, Arto and Piron. Artprice, Artnet, Akoun, etc...
