Large CORPORATE MUG for bakers, in pewter with a truncated cone shape and a domed lid topped with a seated lion with a molded and engraved oval shield. It has a rope handle, a large lenticular thumb rest and rests on three ball feet identical to the thumb rest.
Hallmark attributed to Stephan MULTZ, master around 1600, cited by Erwin HINTZE, T 5, Ref 372 in “Die Deutschen Zinngiesserund ihre Marken”: b / S.M / 20 (b for Bamberg and 20 for 1620)
Height: 45.5 cm.
BAMBERG (Region around Nuremberg), Early 17th century
Piece of great decorative presence in very good condition, a consolidation of one of the pads, poorly executed but invisible in presentation, is however noted.
The coat of arms, dated 1727, was engraved later on the occasion of the acquisition of this tankard by the corporation.
These large tankards were often engraved with the names and surnames of the corporation's master jurors.
